Bullying Policy
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children. It involves a real or perceived power imbalance and the behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying is not permitted. The school community prides itself in promoting a safe environment. To actively maintain a safe, bully-free environment, individuals who become aware of bullying, or potential bullying, are encouraged to immediately inform a teacher or administrator. Youngsville Academy Charter School (YACS) fully complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and North Carolina law, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in education.

YACS does not discriminate on the basis of sex in any of its programs or activities, including admissions and employment. All forms of sex-based discrimination are prohibited. This includes sexual harassment and sexual violence (for example, sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and stalking)
Scope: This policy applies to all persons involved in YACS programs or activities. Covered populations include:
• Students (current, prospective, and enrolled in any program)
• Employees and applicants for employment
• Volunteers, contractors, and other program participants
• All others associated with the school community (including parents/guardians).

Reporting and Grievance Procedures: Any person may report sex discrimination or sexual harassment to the Title IX Coordinator or any school official. YACS encourages prompt reporting. The school will address all complaints under its Title IX grievance procedures, which provide for a prompt, fair, and equitable resolution of complaints alleging sex discrimination.
Non-Retaliation: YACS strictly prohibits retaliation against anyone for reporting sex discrimination or harassment, for opposing such discrimination, or for participating in any investigation or proceeding under this policy. Retaliation is itself a violation of this policy and will be met with disciplinary action.
Title IX Coordinator: YACS has designated a Title IX Coordinator to ensure compliance with this policy and with Title IX regulations. The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the school’s response to reports of sex discrimination and for providing information about rights and resources. The Title IX Coordinator’s contact information is posted on the website and available upon request.
Grievance Reference: YACS’s complete Title IX grievance procedures are available in the Parent Student Handbook. These procedures comply with federal requirements and outline how to report incidents, how investigations are handled, and the rights of all parties.
Non-Discrimination Notice: Consistent with Title IX, YACS does not exclude anyone from participation in, deny benefits of, or subject anyone to discrimination on the basis of sex in its programs or activities. This policy is posted and distributed as required by law.
Title VI Non-Discrimination Policy:Youngsville Academy strictly prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. This policy implements Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and applicable federal and state civil rights laws. Accordingly, no person shall be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in any school program or activity on the basis of race, color, or national origin
Scope: This policy applies to all Youngsville Academy programs, services, and activities that receive federal financial assistance. It covers all members of the school community, including:
• Students (including applicants for admission or enrollment)
• Employees and job applicants
• Parents, guardians, and families
• Volunteers, contractors, and other third parties
Covered programs and activities include, for example, admissions, instruction, counseling, athletics, discipline, extracurricular programs, and other school-sponsored services
Complaint Procedures: Anyone who believes they have been subjected to race, color, or national origin discrimination in violation of this policy may file a complaint. Such complaints should be submitted through the grievance procedure described in the Youngsville Academy Parent Student Handbook. The school will promptly and equitably investigate all complaints in accordance with that procedure.
Non-Retaliation: Youngsville Academy prohibits retaliation against any individual who files a discrimination complaint, participates in an investigation, or opposes discriminatory practices. The school will not intimidate, threaten, coerce, or otherwise penalize any person for asserting rights under this policy. Any act of retaliation will itself be treated as a violation of this policy.
